2018 U.S. Open Club Championships: YCC Mixed Day One Recap

Three clear favorites have already emerged in the U-20 mixed division at the 2018 U.S. Open Club Championships, but mystery lurks in the non-power pools. Minnesota Superior roared to a 2-0 record in Pool A, defeating last year’s champions, the Bay Area Happy Cows, soundly.

In Pool B, the second power pool, Seattle and San Diego Powerline both hold 2-0 records and are set to meet tomorrow as pool play wraps up. Vermont Equinox, the lowest-seeded team in the division, turned heads on their way to a 2-0 day, and Oregon Flood sits atop Pool D. If Equinox and Flood hold their positions, they will advance into bracket play and look to upset the top sides from power pool play. The top two teams in power pools at the end of pool play earn an automatic bid to the quarterfinals while the bottom two have to face off potential upstarts from the non-power pools who’ve placed in the top two of their respective pools. Sunday’s games will start with over a dozen teams vying for a shot at a championship and end with four semifinalists set to match up on Monday.
