Team Biography

Oakland Ultimate, founded by Valerio Iani, international coach and former Youth and Education Director at BADA, debuted with two U-15 teams at the snowy USA Ultimate Western Championships in Fall 2017. Since then, we’ve built a dedicated community of 400 members and played in several out-of-state tournaments around the country. We are very excited about our first U-20 team at YCC! smOAK is a young squad (average age 17.25) formed by 20 players hailing from 11 high schools and a diverse set of geographic regions: East Bay, Napa, Santa Cruz, Turlock, Burlingame and San Francisco. Two of our coaches, Cam and Sam, played themselves at YCC and know the value of competing in Blaine. As coach Dan says: “We are here to build a program that will get better every year and thrive on hard work and players taking on challenges.”
